The winning project seeks to mend the urban fabric between the adjacent neighbourhoods (Sant Andreu and Bon Pastor) to transform Torrent d’Estadella into an attractive hub at the centre of urban greenery projects. The team focused on the following solutions: 

• Green infrastructure to connect various nearby public transportation systems by interconnecting four metro lines, three suburban services, and regional trains.

• A tree-lined cycle-pedestrian avenue to facilitate the movement of users within the neighbourhood by creating shaded paths.

• Energy requalification of existing buildings, construction of net-zero infrastructure and smart energy efficiency monitoring. 

The team said, “Working with such a diverse group of people in a vibrant city like Barcelona has allowed us to use our collective strengths and expertise to create a truly impactful project, and the chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of the local community.”

In the surrounding area, there is a great diversity of urban typologies, including, new housing, developments, industrial areas, the historic centre of Sant Andreu and important infrastructure, such as the Fabra i Coats enclosure. Proposals should seek to preserve industrial activity, whilst seeking new uses for the empty or inactive warehouses to generate additional commercial activity.  The City aims to modernise the existing infrastructure and create a sustainable and energy-efficient environment for all users, such as permanent residents, daily workers and visitors.

• Increasing buildings’ energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
