As part of the C40 Students Reinventing Cities competition, Lisboa E-Nova, in collaboration with Lisbon City Council, welcomed students to the Maria Droste site  in Carnide to explore one of Lisbon’s most complex and exciting urban challenges. The global initiative invites students and universities to propose innovative ideas for sustainable and inclusive urban transformation.

Participants had the opportunity to experience the site firsthand, better understand the potential of this vacant space within Lisbon’s urban fabric, engage with local residents and explore the surrounding neighbourhood and its dynamics.

During the site visit on 13 March 2026, students explored key themes shaping the future of the area, including green infrastructure, climate adaptation, affordable housing and public space. By connecting on-site observations with local perspectives, the visit helped inspire new ideas and creative approaches for the future transformation of the site.

As the final submission deadline approaches on 28 May 2026, students continue developing innovative proposals through the competition process. Grounded in local realities and urban challenges, the projects aim to contribute new visions for a more resilient and inclusive future in Lisbon.
