Belo Horizonte is preparing to transform approximately 37 hectares of the former CTRS BR-040 landfill site into a new urban park. As part of the ongoing Reinventing Cities competition, the City has undertaken a participatory process to bring local knowledge, needs and priorities into the development of the project.
Bringing local priorities into the project
Since March 2026, more than 2,600 people contributed to the consultation, sharing their perspectives on the future of the site.
The process highlighted priorities including better access and connectivity, spaces for walking and recreation, cultural and community activities, and the protection and enhancement of the site’s environmental qualities.
