Schools Reinventing Amman is a design challenge for students in the city to create a healthier, climate-friendly city of the future. 

This year’s challenge invites school children aged 6–18 from Amman to transform public spaces in the Al-Yadudah neighbourhood into climate-resilient, inclusive, and food-secure areas that support urban farming, reduce food waste, and improve access to healthy food for everyone. 

The students’ ideas will be reviewed by city officials and environmental experts, giving them the opportunity to learn about climate action and shape their future city.

More than 400 students from 24 schools in Amman were  invited to take part in Schools Reinventing Amman to design a climate resilient neighbourhood for an inclusive, food secure and climate-resilient city. 

The launch event was a resounding success, bringing together students, educators and government officials. Beyond introducing the challenge, Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) took this opportunity to get the students' opinion on urban planning and challenges that they feel are high priority. The event was more than just a launch, it was a public participation exercise focused on the next generation.

The programme is being delivered by the Jameel C40 Urban Planning Climate Lab in collaboration with the Greater Amman Municipality, C40 Cities, Community Jameel, Minecraft Education, the Queen Rania Center for Education Technology, and Jordan’s Ministry of Education.
