Urban site in southwestern Bogotá, within the ZUMA Bosa–Apogeo, dedicated to cleaner air, greener spaces, and healthier communities.
Located in the south-western area of Bogotá, in the locality of Bosa, the competition site lies within ZUMA Bosa–Apogeo (Zona Urbana por un Mejor Aire) – a pilot zone created to improve air quality, health and well-being through targeted action. The area combines residential, industrial and commercial uses, sits next to the Autopista Sur (one of the city’s main motorways) and is connected to the Tunjuelito River and the Media Luna Sur ecological corridor.
Within the broader ZUMA strategy, Bogotá is implementing a plan of 39 actions. In this context, the city invites students to design innovative, nature-based interventions for a 500 m² site in the Villa del Río neighbourhood, near the Autopista Sur. The space is currently an unpaved roadway and informal parking area adjacent to a bus depot, and has the potential to be transformed into a greener, more welcoming public space that supports cleaner air.
Communities in ZUMA Bosa–Apogeo face significant environmental and social vulnerability, with many low-income households and a high share of children and older adults. Air pollution from resuspended dust on unpaved roads and fossil fuel freight vehicles particularly affects this sector. The competition seeks creative design ideas that help reduce these impacts and contribute to a healthier, more inclusive and resilient urban environment.
Approx. site area
Diagonal 57C Sur, from Carrera 65 until Carrera 68D, in the Villa del Río neighbourhood, within the ZUMA Bosa–Apogeo.
The area selected for the development of the proposal covers a total of 13,609.04 m². From this total area, participating teams must choose a specific intervention space with a minimum size of 500 m², which will be used for the detailed design and development of the urban proposal, ensuring that the intervention remains within the established polygon and responds to the objectives set for the site.
Urban designs are determined by the nature of the elements being intervened, rather than the size of the area. When the project includes streets, sidewalks, plazas, small squares, parks, pathways, or public space reconfigurations, detailed urban designs are required. In this case, the area is located on a road reserve, adjacent to metropolitan infrastructure, and influenced by a main avenue, which implies direct interaction with the urban structure. Therefore, regardless of the size of the intervention polygon, detailed urban designs are necessary.

Key information
Residential area with a large green space without vegetation cover and an unpaved road with high levels of resuspended material and considerable traffic flow, which provides access to the ETIB Madelena yard of the Integrated Public Transport System (SITP).Priority areas & main expectations
Proposals should reduce resuspended material, improve air quality, strengthen ecological connectivity, and create safe, inclusive, and resilient public spaces for the local community.
These interventions will contribute to Bogotá’s broader transformation toward a greener, fairer, and more resilient city.
