The Schools Reinventing Jakarta 2025 initiative has officially concluded. Organized by the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta in partnership with C40 Cities, Breathe Cities, and Minecraft Education, the competition invited students to address urban pollution through digital urban design.

As part of the global Schools Reinventing Cities program—which involves only five select cities worldwide (Tshwane, New York, Mexico City, Amman, and Jakarta)—this initiative invites school children aged 6–18 to reimagine their neighborhoods in the virtual Minecraft world. The goal is to design an Integrated Low-Emission Zone (Kawasan Rendah Emisi Terpadu, KRE-T), aligning directly with Breathe Jakarta Policy Objective  to reduce PM2.5 pollution and carbon emissions in pursuit of Jakarta's 2050 net-zero goals.

Governor’s Statement:

"I am proud that Jakarta is the first city in the world to adopt the Schools Reinventing Cities Toolkit as part of a city-wide challenge. With the participation of over 2,000 students, this initiative is a powerful example of youth empowerment and civic engagement, putting young voices at the center of shaping a cleaner, more sustainable urban future."

Key Highlights & Competition Outcomes

• 2,121 students (707 teams) across 324 schools in Jakarta participated to design low-emission areas for a green, inclusive, and climate-resilient city.

• Winners are awarded the official Governor’s Trophy, and the distinction is recognized as an official student educational achievement.

• On 20 June 2025, the main awarding ceremony was held at Taman Literasi, drawing over 3,000 attendees for a World Environment Day celebration themed "Udara Kita Bersih." During the celebration, Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno formally presented top honors, including 1st Place in the High School Category to students from SMK Negeri 70 Jakarta. 

• The program culminated on 10 July 2025 at Balai Agung City Hall, where the Governor of Jakarta hosted a dedicated reception for the winning student teams and partner agencies to celebrate youth contributions to urban sustainability.
