Mayor LaToya Cantrell met Team People First, who presented their highly commended project to Read & Lake Forest Corridors in New Orleans

Team People First, comprised of undergraduate students from Loyola University New Orleans, met with Mayor LaToya Cantrell to present their outstanding project to reimagine Read & Lake Forest Corridors site.

The jury, comprised of City Officials, C40 experts, & local stakeholders, was extremely impressed with the team's approach to engaging the local community in their design and reinventing the area to put, as their name may suggest, the residents of the area, first.

The team's faculty advisor, Bara Watts, Executive Director of Entrepreneurship at Loyola University New Orleans, said "The Mayor was incredibly engaged and showed tremendous support for the ideas and passion the students presented.  We appreciate the opportunity to engage our students in this program and let them know that their work can have an impact at the highest level of decision-making."

The People First team developed a comprehensive and inclusive plan that addressed disaster planning; green infrastructure; stormwater management; energy production like anaerobic digesters; public and private transportation; bike and pedestrian roadways; climate-focused street design; hurricane-proof housing; community places including urban gardens and other solutions to address crime and food insecurity; and even green jobs.
